Fresno Pacific had its six-game women's basketball winning streak snapped, going scoreless for a 7-minute stretch midway through the second half of a 85-75 Pacific West Conference loss Saturday to visiting Point Loma.
Jenay Herring's 3-pointer with 15:03 left put the Sunbirds up 53-49. But Erin Andersen countered with a 3-pointer of her own to launch a 17-0 run that put the Crusaders (11-9, 8-7) ahead to stay at 66-53.
Herring scored 27 for Fresno Pacific (8-12, 9-6).
Point Loma outscored Fresno Pacific's men's team by 18 over the final 8:52 to pull away for an 89-69 victory that snapped the Sunbirds' five-game winning streak.
Johnell Thompson hit a 3-pointer with 9:07 left that tied it 57-57, but the Crusaders (13-8, 8-7) responded with a pair of Marek Klassen free throws to ignite a 30-12 run. Malcolm Griffin led the Sunbirds (10-13, 5-10) with 22 points and eight assists.
Archie's meet double leads Fresno Pacific
Sharessa Archie won the long (17 feet, 5 inches) and triple jumps (37-7) to highlight Fresno Pacific's performances at the Westmont Sunshine Open.
Jayla Laidley in the 60-meter hurdles (9.21 seconds), Courtney Smith in the javelin (113-4) and Sarah Hill in the high jump (5-6) also won for the Sunbirds women.
For the men, Tyler Hiester won the pole vault (12-7), Donte McDaniel the long jump (21-7) and Max Jimenez, Caleb Fiedor, McDaniel and John Brinson combined to win the 1,600 relay (3:28.05).
