1. The best thing about NBA All-Star Paul George is the former Fresno State standout doesn't know how an NBA All-Star is supposed to act. How else to explain why he is competing in the Slam Dunk competition contest Saturday? In an NBA where Making it Big means becoming too big for slam dunk contests, George is a wonderful throwback to the Michael Jordan free-throw line days.
2. Pitchers and catchers are reporting to spring training. Time to see whether the Giants' pitching staff will be more of the same from 2013, or a rediscovery of the 2012 form that won a World Series. If nothing else, they can't blame a short offseason -- these pitchers have had nothing but time to figure out what went so horribly wrong last year.
3. We hear the Super Bowl champion Seahawks are set up for a long run of titles. Yeah. Just like the 2011 Giants, and 2010 Packers, and 2009 Saints, and 2008 Steelers, and ... Well, there's a reason no team has repeated in a decade. Too many big fish chasing the same prize in the same small pond.
