Math error changes Tulare County Academic Decathlon outcome

The Fresno BeeFebruary 6, 2014

A math error resulted in the wrong team being named the winner of the 2014 Tulare County Academic Decathlon, the Tulare County Office of Education said.

At the end of the competition, the team from Granite Hills High School in Porterville was declared the overall winner, with the opportunity to represent Tulare County at the state finals next month in Sacramento.

After the miscalculation of scores was corrected, Harmony Magnet Academy was declared the overall winner of the competition, the Tulare County Office of Education said.

The decathlon marks the third consecutive overall championship for Harmony Magnet Academy. Prior to Harmony's first win in 2012, teams from Granite Hills High School had been the overall champions for nine consecutive years.
