New flu deaths in Fresno, Tulare counties bring tally to 27

Officials in Fresno and Tulare counties each reported an additional flu-related death Wednesday.

The latest deaths bring Fresno County's count to 15, and Tulare County's tally to two.

So far this flu season, 27 people have died in the central San Joaquin Valley. Merced and Kings counties have had four deaths and Madera County has had two.

Health departments receive reports of flu-related deaths of people who are younger than 65 and who have been hospitalized in intensive care units.

The flu strain widely circulating this year is the virulent H1N1 influenza A virus, also called swine flu.
