Fresno police are investigating a fatal overnight shooting Tuesday south of downtown Fresno.
The shooting happened sometime before 3:30 a.m. at Florence Avenue and G Street. The victim was identified as John Williams, 43, according to the Fresno County Coroner's Office. Williams died of his wounds shortly after 4 a.m. at Community Regional Medical Center.
Several people who live near Florence Avenue and G Street said Williams was known as John-John and that he often washed car windows for donations. A woman who identified herself as Penelope said Williams lived next door to her in 2007 at an area hotel but he had since become homeless. She said he visited her recently, but she asked him to leave because he was being obnoxious.
A man who identified himself only as Terry agreed Williams was difficult, "but that's still not a motive to shoot anybody."
Another man, Alex, who works nearby, said he saw Williams frequently. Alex, who did not offer a last name, did not feel Williams was disagreeable.
"He was no troublemaker," he said. "He used to ride a bike with no tires, just the (metal) rims. That's a crazy guy."
Alex said Williams was often seen with his windshield-washing squeegee at Jensen and Cherry avenues.
