Fire in southeast Fresno damages abandoned house

The Fresno BeeFebruary 2, 2014

A fire in an abandoned house in southeast Fresno that appears to have been home to transients caused $5,000 in damage, said fire Capt. Larry French.

The fire started just after 6 p.m. and spread up the walls and into the ceiling of a back room of the house in the 800 block of North 9th Street, French said. The structure is valued at $40,000 and is boarded up.

French said the cause of the fire was unknown but there was evidence of a makeshift apartment in the back of the house.
