Fresno students come face-to-face with a dairy cow

January 31, 2014

Students at Rowell Elementary School in southeast Fresno were treated to a special assembly Friday morning by Mishael McDougal of the Dairy Council of California.

McDougal brought the Mobile Dairy Classroom -- which included a live dairy cow -- as part of a traveling program through the Valley, providing a real-world learning experience to teach students about the agriculture industry and discuss dairy food products as part of a balanced diet.

For many Rowell students who have grown up in an urban environment, this provided a unique glimpse into the farming industry, and for many, it was the first opportunity to see a dairy cow up close.

The Fresno Bee is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
