Herring's hot shooting leads Sunbirds women
Jenay Herring hit 4 of 6 3-pointers and also had nine assists and five steals as Fresno Pacific's women's basketball team won its fourth straight, beating Notre Dame de Namur 69-64 in a PacWest Conference game in Belmont.
Herring hit 7 of 10 shots overall for the Sunbirds (7-11, 7-5), who continued their midseason surge after dropping their first seven games to start the 2013-14 campaign under first-year coach Lindsey Wilson.
Charde Stevens was just 3 for 11 from the field but bolstered her numbers with a 6-of-6 night from the free throw line and a game co-high eight rebounds.
Maya Arellanes hit 5 of 11 3-point shots and scored a game-high 21 for the Argos (4-14, 3-9), who trailed by as many as 19 in the second half before getting as close as four with 1:22 left.
Breana Buczek, who scored 11 points to go with eight rebounds, made a steal and a free throw to ice the victory.
