College of the Sequoias' baseball season got off to a rough start, as the Giants lost 10-1 to Allan Hancock on Thursday in a duel of teams ranked No. 15 in their respective state regional polls.

Sophomore right-hander Cole Hallum fanned eight in seven innings as South No. 13 Bakersfield beat Porterville 4-1. Fernando Singh doubled and scored on Mitch Doucette's groundout in the seventh for the Pirates, already down 4-0.
Reedley softball team opens with defeat
Reedley College lost one to rain then one on the field to Gavilan 10-7 in what became a single game to open its new softball season.
