Fresno County Assessor-Recorder Paul Dictos made some enemies -- especially in the agricultural community -- when his office raised property taxes for thousands of agricultural landowners.

Tuesday, Dictos stood up for farmers when he faxed a letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein's office imploring California's senior senator to help ease water restrictions during the drought.

It's probably merely a symbolic gesture on Dictos' part. Earlier in the day, a Feinstein spokesman told Bee Washington Bureau reporter Michael Doyle that neither Feinstein nor her staff had been approached by the Valley's GOP congressmen about their plan to insert water relief legislation into the federal farm bill.

Still, Dictos is passionate in his arguments to Feinstein. See for yourself in the letter below.

Meanwhile, he's running for re-election. At least one challenger, Sanger Republican Michael Goossen, has stepped forward.
