A former Madera resident was sentenced to 27 months in prison Tuesday for wire fraud relating to the fraudulent sale of websites, U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner said.
According to court documents, Phillip Jacob Shinen, 33, advertised and sold various websites to the public between February 2007 and March 2008.
Shinen guaranteed purchasers that the websites would produce a certain threshold of income and promised to train the purchasers to use the websites, but the websites did not generate the level of income or Internet traffic Shinen claimed.
Wagner said that Shinen also made it difficult for website purchasers to contact him by providing them with a number of false names.
