Fresno County leaders, community members and children celebrated the groundbreaking of a new community learning center Friday in downtown Fresno.
The project is funded by First 5 Fresno County and will house a high quality child development center, a learning center for families and professionals and administrative offices for First 5. There will also be meeting and conference rooms that can accommodate up to 80 people. The facility will be called Lighthouse for Children.
The child development center is licensed for up to 84 infants, toddlers and preschoolers up to age 5. It will offer small class sizes, low teacher-child ratio, flexible enrollment schedules, parent-organized workshops and healthy food.
It will serve families that qualify for Early Head Start, Head Start, subsidized child care, state subsidized preschool and private pay options.
The Lighthouse for Children is expected to open in late 2014.
