A state investigative fraud sting ended Thursday in six people charged for illegal contracting work in Auberry.
The six suspects showed up for a job at an Auberry cabin and left as the subjects of a Contractors State License Board case.
The investigation began from a list of suspected unlicensed contractors who replied to Craigslist ads looking for painters, plumbers, tree trimmers and deck work. The deck work received the highest bid of $2,800.
Three of the six suspects were also cited for not having workers compensation insurance. Five of the six face an additional charge of illegal advertising. The fake contractor who submitted the deck estimate was also cited for requesting an excessive down payment.
The suspects will be formally charged at 8:30 a.m. March 4 at the Fresno County Superior Court.
