1. The 49ers let the off-field noise and on-field chirping get to them in a 29-3 loss Week 2 in Seattle. They still won't be able to control their emotions, or their timeout usage, so Sunday's game will get away from them in a New York Super Bowl minute. But, because Seattle always lets teams back into it ... Seahawks 27, 49ers 20. Because there's nothing like opening hate email on the way to church Sunday morning.
2. Judging by media coverage, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are playing each other in the AFC championship in a game of 1-on-1 football. Except, as NFL rules would have it, the other guys on offense and defense get to play as well, which is why the best quarterback will not win Sunday. The team with the least-worst defense will. Broncos 35, Patriots 30, based on the scientific deduction that my blind guess is as good as any.
3. As Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr and colleagues spend this week at the Senior Bowl, name another professional sport where draft picks are so heavily influenced by in-person interviews and underwear weigh-ins. And, practice. Allen Iverson just called. He said, "Practice?"
