SPECIAL TO THE BEE

The four Malayan tiger cubs who were born Jan. 5 at Fresno Chaffee Zoo were weighed Wednesday for the first time.

The litter mates, two girls and two boys, were 2 and 1/2 to 3 and 1/2 pounds each, have healthy round bellies and are noisy, said Lyn Myers, the zoo's assistant curator.

"They are extremely loud and insistent," she said.

"They are hollering and swatting with extended claws much like they will when they are adults."

The cubs, who are not yet named, are identified by different striping patterns that are similar to fingerprints, Myers said.
