San Luis Obispo County sheriff's officials have seized 3,500 to 4,000 pounds of marijuana from the panga boat that was beached Wednesday morning at Estero Bluffs.
No suspects have been apprehended, but authorities are continuing to search the area. Representatives from the Sheriff's Office, State Parks and Fish and Wildlife are participating in the effort, and a CHP helicopter has been assisting from the air.
The Sheriff's Office received a call at 7:20 a.m. from the U.S. Coast Guard, which reported seeing what appeared to be a large panga boat offshore of Morro Bay, heading north.
In response, deputies from the sheriff's special operations unit were dispatched to investigate.
Then at 8:20, a citizen called to report a panga boat on the beach at Estero Bluffs.
Upon reaching the scene, deputies discovered what they called a "super panga" of 45 feet in length and outfitted with twin 350-horsepower outboard motors.
