The man who died after a fire broke out Monday night at the Parkland Hotel west of Highway 99 in Fresno has been identified as Eligio Gonzalez, 37, of Fresno, the Fresno County Coroner's Office said Tuesday.

The fire broke out about 10 p.m. in a ground-floor guest room at the hotel at 3093 Parkway Drive, said Fresno Fire Department Battalion Chief Don Bier. The fire destroyed the room's interior and caused some damage to the exterior of the hotel.

Bier said fire officials don't yet know what caused the fire.
