An SUV went airborne in a high-speed speed crash, killing the driver Monday night near Alpaugh, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash took place just before 10 p.m. at Avenue 54 and Road 16. The CHP said the unidentified driver of a Lincoln Navigator was going about 100 mph on Avenue 54 where the road turns north into Road 16. The recommended speed before the corner is 15 mph, the CHP said.
The driver did not make the turn and drove off the road. The Navigator became airborne, cleared a canal and crashed in a field. The driver was dead at the scene.
