• Nate Amundsen, committed to NAIA power Concordia of the Golden State Athletic Conference, and Murshid Randle scored 25 and 21 points as Central Section top-ranked Central — in its first home game of the season — improved to 15-3 with a 73-58 nonconference win over No. 6 Edison. Central will play three-year reigning Division I champion Bullard at 5:30 p.m. next Friday at Fresno City College.
• Fresno, down 13-0 to open the game, received a basket by Caleb Williams with 4 seconds remaining for its only lead and a 62-61 win over Centennial at the Jesse Lujan Memorial Tournament at Selma. Houston transfer Daryl Edwards scored 30 points for the Warriors, 12-1 a year after going 2-8 in the North Yosemite League and not participating in the D-III playoffs. Their season includes wins over D-I foes Buchanan and Clovis, and a conquest of 2013 D-III runner-up Mission Oak. D-I Centennial (9-4) of the Southwest Yosemite League, is regarded by some as the top team in Kern County. Fresno will play Washington today at 8 p.m. for the Lujan Memorial title. The D-IV Panthers improved to 12-2 with a 66-30 rout of South behind 19 points from Shakor Major, 15 from William Blue and 14 from Trevor Hooper.
• Juan Carlos Lazcano, Manzir Singh and Leo Rosales scored as Central, the Division I runner-up a year ago, defeated Bullard 3-0 in a nonleague game.
• Central's Mariah Montoya, in the final minute, beat the goalie and slotted a ball that deflected off a Bullard player's leg and into the net as the Grizzlies edged the Knights 2-1 in a nonleague match of section powers. Nerise Bugho's goal in the 72nd minute tied it, 1-1, for Central. The Grizzlies and Bullard were seeded Nos. 1-2 in the D-I playoff a year ago in a tournament eventually won by Buchanan.
