The Clovis Antique Mall reopened 11 months after a fire destroyed its neighboring business, Country Rose Antiques & Accents.
The Clovis Antique Mall, at 532 5th St., had smoke and water damage, but didn't burn and its owners at first thought they could reopen the day after the fire.
But upon further inspection, they discovered the west wall needed to be torn down and replaced. They did about $300,000 worth of repairs paid for by insurance, including replacing the electrical system, carpet and tile and upgrading bathrooms and counters to comply with Americans With Disabilities Act. About 80% of the antique vendors have returned.
Country Rose has been knocked down and is now a dirt lot. Its owners plan to rebuild.
