Two men were pinned in their cars and had to be flown to Community Regional Medical Center after a crash Wednesday near Five Points on Highway 145, said California Highway Patrol Officer M. Steadmon.
Just before 4 p.m., Cameron Sills, 22, from Coalinga, was driving south on Highway 145 just north of Colorado Road in a 2007 Subaru Outback when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the yellow dividing line and slammed into Herbert Schmitz, 59. Steadmon said Schmitz was driving a company truck for Westlands Water District.
Both drivers were pinned and firefighters had to pry them free. Schmitz has a broken left arm and leg and Sills has a broken left leg and head trauma, Steadmon said.
Sills and Schmitz were flown to Community Regional Medical Center, but Steadmon said there was no information about their condition.
There were no witnesses to the crash, Steadmon said, but Sills told officers he crossed into northbound traffic.
