2 passengers die in Highway 33 crash near Mendota

Two passengers died and the driver sustained moderate injuries in a single-vehicle crash late Tuesday afternoon on Highway 33 south of Mendota.

Luis Reyes Castillo, 20 of Mendota was driving north and approaching Nebraska Avenue about 4:30 p.m. when his Toyota Camry veered off the road and hit a tree, the California Highway Patrol said.

A 23-year-old man in the front seat and a 52-year-old man in the back seat were killed. They were not identified. Castillo was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
