Seven people were injured in a five-car crash at West and Ashlan avenues in central Fresno Monday evening, police said.

Four cars were stopped at a traffic light in the westbound lanes of Ashlan Avenue at West Avenue about 5:10 p.m. when a car moving at a high speed tried to pass along the dashed line between the stopped vehicles.

The crash left seven people with injuries ranging from minor to serious, and left three occupants pinned in their cars, police said. There were no fatalities.

The driver of the speeding car, a man in his mid-20s, told police he didn't remember what happened. Police were testing the man for drugs or alcohol.
