Mattress Discounters has opened two new stores in the Fresno-Clovis area in recent months.
The latest opened at 50 E. Shaw Ave., near Blackstone Avenue, in mid-December. Several weeks before that, a Mattress Discounters opened at 1385 Shaw Ave. in Clovis, near Sunnyside Avenue. A third Mattress Discounters is at 4230 West Shaw Ave. near Brawley Avenue.
The stores are owned by Rocklin-based Sleep Train. As the name implies, Mattress Discounters "offers a frills-free shopping environment for customers who seek quality sleep products at discount prices," said Mike Wilson, Sleep Train's executive vice president of marketing.
The retailer sells Beautyrest, Serta, Posturepedic, Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Stearns & Foster, and several Memory Foam products.
Growth in the region is driving the new store openings, Wilson said.
Several new mattress stores have opened in the area in recent years, including a SleepFit store and Sleep Train stores.
El Paseo update
Most of the stores at the new Marketplace at El Paseo are built and the shopping center is scheduled to open in March. Retailers are finishing interior work at the center at Herndon Avenue near Highway 99.
When completed it will have about 50 stores. While most stores will open in March, some smaller retailers will open throughout the summer and fall, said developer Chris Shane.
Among the first to announce an opening date is Target, which will open March 9, according to a banner outside the store. The 140,000-square-foot store will employ about 200 people and have a Starbucks and a pharmacy. Job seekers can apply online at Target.com/careers.
Newly announced retailers at the center include cosmetics store Ulta Beauty and clothing store Maurice's, which is owned by the same company that owns Dressbarn and Justice clothing stores. Other stores previously announced include Burlington Coat Factory, Marshalls, Ross, Old Navy, Famous Footwear, Anna's Linens, Petco, Tilly's, Sleep Number, McDonald's and Panda Express.
Six buildings are still under construction.
Shops for Earlimart
AutoZone was the first retailer to open in the new White River Plaza shopping center in Earlimart. The 7.5-acre center, at the northeast corner of Avenue 56 and Highway 99, is the biggest retail commercial development ever built in Earlimart, according to the Tulare County Economic Development Office.
AutoZone opened Dec. 12, selling automotive aftermarket products.
A Dollar General also is under construction and scheduled to open in February. The center also will have a supermarket, national fast-food restaurants and other retailers and services.
