3 held in Clovis Kohl's theft after sheriff's helicopter tracks them down

The Fresno County Sheriff's Department helicopter helped police catch three men who were suspected of stealing from a Kohl's retail store on Saturday, the Clovis Police Department said.

Officers were called to the Kohl's at Sierra Vista Mall on Shaw Avenue just before 6 p.m. for a theft in which the witness started to follow the suspect vehicle as it sped away from the store, the police department said.

The helicopter quickly assisted the police and found the vehicle driving erratically and speeding south on Clovis Avenue from Shields Avenue.

The driver nearly lost control of the vehicle when he turned west onto McKinley Avenue as it approached the California Air National Guard base, police said. At that point, the helicopter used a spotlight to identify the car for police.

One of the three suspects ran from the vehicle toward the base but was caught immediately. Two of the men, ages 21 and 27 of Fresno, were held on suspicion of burglary and violation of probation while the third man, 25, of Fresno, was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and a weapons violation. All three were booked into the Fresno County Jail.
