Man killed while standing on Highway 99 in Fresno

A man is dead after he was hit by a car while standing in the slow lane of Highway 99 in Fresno early Sunday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man, who has not been identified pending notification of family, was standing in the No. 3 slow lane of Highway 99 southbound, north of Clovis Avenue, for an unknown reason around 4 a.m., the CHP said.

A 29-year-old Fresno man driving south in a Ford pickup truck collided with the man. The victim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision remains under investigation.
