A vehicle fire that started in front of a home in Visalia late Saturday night destroyed the car and caused about $3,000 in damages to the house, the fire department said.
Firefighters were dispatched to 249 S. Grand St. in east Visalia around 11:35 p.m. for a reported vehicle fire threatening a structure. When firefighters arrived, there was a heavy fire and smoke coming from a 2000 Honda Civic parked in the driveway of the home.
Visalia police officers had alerted the residents to evacuate the house before firefighters arrived.
Three fire engines, one ladder truck, one battalion chief and a total of 13 personnel contained a majority of the fire to the vehicle but the garage door and house did receive some minor damage, the fire department said.
The cause of the fire, which started in the engine compartment area, is unknown. The car was a total loss valued at about $7,000 and there was about $3,000 in damage to the house, the fire department said.
