The Hanford Fire Department responded to smoke coming from a vacant house Friday morning.

Firefighters arrived shortly after 8 a.m. to the abandoned house on the 1400 block of Bengston Avenue. Light-colored smoke was coming from the roof eaves. Firefighters cut a hole in the roof for ventilation and contained the fire.

The estimated damages amounted to more than $55,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, said Batallion Chief Jim Sunia.
