Over 400,000 Californians sign up for health care

Covered California said Thursday that more than 103,000 Californians completed insurance applications between last Friday through Monday to have coverage effective Jan. 1.

A total of 428,000 people had enrolled in plans by the Monday deadline. "So the momentum is phenomenal," said Athena Fleming, a Covered California spokeswoman.

Fleming said applications that were partially completed on Dec. 23 will be reviewed by Covered California service representatives, including certified insurance agents and counselors. People will be contacted for help in completing the applications.

Consumers should check the status of their application by logging in to their account at CoveredCA.com and click the "Summary" button to view the application, Fleming said.

People also can contact agents and counselors for help in completing applications. Information about finding an agent or counselor is available on the Covered California website.
