Fresno woman killed in crash was 5th grade teacher

The Fresno BeeDecember 25, 2013

The woman who died in a fatal car crash Tuesday morning in northwest Fresno has been identified as Karen Bisgaard, a teacher at Viking Elementary School in east-central Fresno.

A woman who witnessed the crash said Bisgaard, who would have turned 56 on Christmas Day, was westbound on Herndon Avenue east of Brawley Avenue when she lost control, struck a tree and was thrown from her car, Fresno police said.

Fresno Unified District spokeswoman Susan Bedi said Bisgaard, a Fresno resident, had taught fifth grade at the school for the past five years.

"She was well liked by her students as well as her colleagues," Bedi added. "Please keep her and her family in your thoughts during this very difficult time."
