Patient blamed for Visalia hospital fire

The Fresno BeeDecember 25, 2013

A patient is being blamed for a Christmas Day fire at Kaweah Delta Medical Center that prompted a temporary evacuation of patients, the Visalia Fire Department said.

Crews were called just after 2 p.m. to the hospital by reports of a fire on the third floor in the north wing area.

The patient, a man in his mid 20s, lit bedding material with a lighter, but the blaze was quickly extinguished by hospital staff, the fire department said.

Firefighters assisted in clearing smoke and temporarily evacuated patients from the immediate area.

No injuries were reported.
