Valley Assembly members urge Gov. Jerry Brown to declare drought

The Fresno BeeDecember 18, 2013

Democratic Assembly Members Henry T. Perea of Fresno, Rudy Salas of Bakersfield and Adam Gray of Merced urged Gov. Jerry Brown to declare a statewide drought due to dry weather and low water allocations to farms.

"California is experiencing some of the driest conditions on record, which are impacting agricultural production," Perea said in a letter to Brown.

In response, Brown's office said he is establishing an interagency Drought Task Force to meet weekly and review expected allocations, the state of preparedness, and whether conditions warrant declaration of a statewide drought.
