A man was killed and four other people were seriously injured Sunday in a one-car crash on a dirt road east of Porterville, the California Highway Patrol said.
The man, believed to be in his mid-30s, was behind the wheel of a blue Ford Bronco about noon heading west on a dirt extension of the North Reservation Road when the car swerved off the road striking a large rock, CHP Sgt. Chris Boudreaux said.
The vehicle went into a spin leaving all passengers and a dog pinned inside. Officers had to extricate the passengers with "Jaws of Life," Boudreaux said.
The driver, whose identity was not released, died at the scene. At least two people were flown to hospitals and the others were taken via ground ambulance.
No other information was immediately available.
