Fort Miller Middle School's band and strings ensemble will play at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Fulton Mall ice rink, showcasing students' talents and the district's goal to "engage in arts activities and athletics."

Fresno Unified School District invested $1 million in the arts this past school year, which provided 1,000 new instruments, new equipment for visual and performing arts, new teachers for the arts and professional development. The district recently tallied more than 30,000 students who now have access to music, art, journalism and language electives.
