Members of Organizing For Action, the Mexican American Political Association, Peace Fresno and the Green Party stand at the northeast corner of Blackstone and El Paso avenues in Fresno on Friday evening with signs and colored lights commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings.
Saturday is the anniversary of the Newtown, Conn., attack in which a gunman killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Samuel Molina of OFA said his national group is dedicated to advancing the agenda of President Barack Obama and wants Congress to recommit to background checks for gun purchases and banning military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
According to its website, Organizing For Action also involves itself in immigration, health care and the climate.
Members of the groups spelled the word peace in a similar fashion diagonally across the intersection.
