Struggling Valley homeowners can get help in online foreclosure event

Central Valley homeowners struggling with foreclosure can get help for free today and Thursday by participating in an online mortgage assistance event held by HOPE NOW.

The alliance - made up of mortgage servicers, investors, counselors and other mortgage market participants - partnered with Springboard, a nonprofit counseling agency, to connect homeowners with housing counselors and mortgage companies from the comfort of their own home.

Homeowners in Bakersfield, Fresno, Modesto, Stockton and the surrounding areas are eligible to participate. The event started on Tuesday. It runs 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Thursday at event.hopenow.com.

Homeowners need to have financial and mortgage information such as income, expenses and a mortgage statement with account number to provide to counselors.

Mortgage help is also available by calling (888) 845-0418.

Other participants include Keep Your Home California and financial institutions such as Chase, Citi, HSBC, Nationstar, Ocwen, PNC, Wells Fargo and more.

The Fresno Bee is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news.
