The Fresno Fire Department honored more than three dozen of its firefighters and some police officers and community members for heroic acts during a ceremony Tuesday at City Hall.
Meritorious Service Award recipients for outstanding performance in a crisis were:
Southwest Fresno house fire rescue: Capts. Gary Wedemeyer and John Ross, firefighters Mark Garcia and Shannon Swillis.
Canal rescue at Shields Avenue and Highway 41: Firefighters Fred Martinez and David Ramirez, Capt. Richard Willard, and engineer Craig Netzley.
East-central Fresno garage fire rescue: Capt. Oscar Betancourt, firefighter Pete Lara, and engineers David Long and Carlos Perez.
Attempted suicide rescue at Highway 41 and Ashlan Avenue: Capts. Kirk Wanless and Pete Dern, and engineer Dan Dodson.
Clinical Save Award recipients for saving someone not breathing: Capts. Domlin Juul, Todd Aasness, Chad Tucker, Steve Byers, Pete Dern, and Will Veiga; engineers Steve Stowe, Gary Schafer, Kenny Dahlen, Conor Schwarm, Martin Klopmanbaerselman, Adam Enns, Dan Dodson and Luis Rhodes; firefighters Tim Otto, Agapito Martinez, Hector Vasquez, Anthony Troncale, Peter Dodson, Brad Dandridge, Kevin Hughes, and Adam Gutierrez; and civilian Karl Preheim.
Distinguished Service Award for merit/service outside of an emergency: Juul, Stowe and firefighter Keola Park.
Civilian Life-Saving Certificates: Howard Ladwig, Michael Corless, Miguel Pedraza, Richard Llewellyn, Willie Brown Jr., and Fresno police officers Damon Edroza and Bernie Vizcarra.
