Audit: Fresno Unified financially stable

The Fresno BeeDecember 10, 2013

Fresno Unified School District is on firm financial footing, according to the most recent audit of its business practices.

Ruth Quinto, district chief financial officer, said Tuesday the district got high ratings on two financial reports including its annual audit and a quarterly budget update.

The district got an "unmodified opinion" -- the highest opinion available -- on the external audit of last school year's budget. Crowe Horwath accounting and consulting firm did the review.

A separate report, which looked at the district's finances since July, shows Fresno Unified has enough cash on hand to fund its programs including a commitment to offer more preschool seats at several schools.

The school board will review both reports at its meeting on Wednesday.
