Briggs leaving Fresno County counsel post

Kevin Briggs

Kevin Briggs is on his way out as Fresno County counsel.

His last day will be Jan. 31.

Briggs started with the county in January 1988 as a deputy county counsel and was promoted to chief deputy county counsel in 2003, overseeing the general law unit.

He was appointed as county counsel in November 2009 after serving in the post on an interim basis for 11 months. He was the second person to hold the interim tag after County Counsel Dennis Marshall left in the middle of 2008 to work in Santa Barbara County.

The county counsel represents the county in various legal matters, including civil cases, and provides legal advice to county officials, including the Board of Supervisors.

Briggs — who did not return a phone call seeking comment — was admitted to the State Bar in 1985.

The Fresno Bee is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news.
