Fresno State has named an interim vice president for student affairs who will serve until a replacement for retiring vice president Paul Oliaro is named.

Dean of students Carolyn V. Coon will start the interim position on Dec. 15. A nationwide search for the position is under way and is expected to be completed by early 2014.

Oliaro announced his retirement in September after a 42-year career in the students affairs profession at four colleges, the last 11 years at Fresno State.

Coon arrived at Fresno State in 2002 and has worked in student affairs since 1986. She served in assistant dean/dean positions at several liberal arts colleges in Kansas.
