A donation drive to help victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines will be held this weekend in Fresno, sponsored by a number of Filipino-American groups and community service organizations.

The groups hosting the drive are working under the umbrella name Filipinio Organizations Working for Emergency Relief (POWER).

Collections will be taken from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Filipino-American Community Center, 4315 E. Clinton Ave. in east-central Fresno.

Money is being collected, along with things such as blankets, clothes, towels, canned food, toiletries, jackets and socks -- to be donated to the Philippine Red Cross, event organizers said.

The reporter can be reached at (559) 441-6386, cgeorge@fresnobee.com or @CarmenGeorge on Twitter.
