A Kings County woman is in jail on a no-bail warrant for refusing to send her child to school.

Connie Sifuentes, 55, was arrested by a sheriff's deputy and a school resource officer under a law that took effect about three years ago.

Sifuentes has a middle school boy enrolled at Central Union School in Lemoore who missed more than 10% of the school year last year and this year, the Kings County Office of Education said.

Since early 2011, about 10 to 15 parents have been arrested for truancy involving their middle school or elementary school children, said Truant Officer Brian Gonzales.
