The public is invited to watch wildlife officials release salmon Saturday into the San Joaquin River at Lost Lake Park as part of a new event called Fresno SalmonFest.
The festival begins at 11 a.m. and the release is expected at 1 p.m., say organizers, Trout Unlimited and the San Joaquin River Partnership. The event is free, but the entry fee into Lost Lake Park is $5. For information, call (559) 709-5948.
There will be informational booths, fly casting lessons, canoe rides, a salmon fish tank and activities for children.
As part of the restoration of the river, the migrating fall-run salmon are captured in the San Joaquin many miles downstream, trucked to Lost Lake and released for spawning.
