The westbound lanes of Highway 180 in central Fresno reopened Saturday with a new traffic configuration -- an auxiliary lane that will smooth the way for travelers heading from Highway 168 to northbound Highway 41.
The lanes were closed overnight Friday so crews could prepare to open the first major portions of the "braided ramps" project, which is designed to reduce traffic conflicts for motorists traveling between highways 180, 168 and 41.
As of Saturday evening, drivers rolling from Highway 168 onto westbound 180 could use a new bridge. Drivers who want to get off westbound 180 and onto Highway 41 exit under the bridge on a new off-ramp.
