Kurtis McCoy went over a defender to haul in the third of Tristian Hernandez's three touchdown passes — a 20-yarder with 2:19 remaining to lift Roosevelt over Reedley 19-18 in the North Yosemite League on Thursday night at Sunnyside Stadium. The Rough Riders, who trailed by 11 in the third quarter, closed to 18-13 on Hernandez's 34-yard strike to Willie Fairman — who came up with an interception with 1:06 left in the game to seal it. Hernandez also connected with Ivan Martinez for a 28-yard TD. The Pirates received scoring runs of 3 and 1 yards from Daniel Del Muro while having their two-game winning streak snapped.
Juan Flores scored twice on 6-yard runs in the fourth quarter to help No. 17 Tulare Western pull away from Monache 38-17 in the East Yosemite League. Casey Bernardo snapped a 17-17 tie when he caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Kobe Portillo early in the third quarter for the Mustangs. After Tulare Western opened an early 17-3 lead, the Marauders rallied behind a reverse pass of 34 yards from Nisar Abdulla to Skyler Schrein and a 70-yard blocked field goal return by Brian Leypon.
The Bee's Central Section top-ranked Central Valley Christian won its 54th straight Central Sequoia League match and clinched a fifth straight title as Veronica Nederend smacked 15 kills in a 25-19, 25-9, 26-24 win over Kingsburg.
No. 8 Buchanan outlasted No. 5 Clovis West 21-25, 25-11, 25-21, 24-26, 16-14 and No. 7 Clovis downed No. 15 Central 25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19 behind 26 kills and eight digs from Maddie Ogas to create a three-way tie atop the Tri-River Athletic Conference between the Bears, Golden Eagles and Cougars at 6-2. Clovis closes league play next week by hosting Buchanan and playing at Clovis West. The Bears also play at Clovis North and the Golden Eagles also have Clovis East. Playoff seedings will be announced Nov. 8.
Natalie Zimmerer's eight kills, seven digs and 15 assists helped No. 9 Clovis North defeat Clovis East 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 in the TRAC.
No. 2 El Diamante clinched its fourth West Yosemite League title in five years, getting 10 kills and two blocks from Lauren Torres in a 25-10, 25-16, 25-11 sweep of Lemoore.
Makinna Malady had 14 kills and Kylan Malady added 10 kills and five blocks as No. 14 Madera clinched at least a tie for the County/Metro Athletic Conference title with a 20-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 15-12 comeback against Edison.
Sunnyside and Hoover continue to share the North Yosemite League lead at 7-1 as the Wildcats got seven kills from Cynthia Nguyen in a 25-12, 25-12, 25-13 sweep of Roosevelt while the Patriots rode Deja Manning's 12 kills to a 28-26, 25-19, 25-23 sweep of Reedley.
Defending Division IV champion Woodlake won its 33rd straight East Sequoia League match behind 14 kills from Melissa Samaniego and 13 kills from Kianna Cunningham in a 25-14, 25-15, 25-18 win over Lindsay.

Chris Moreno scored five goals in No. 5 Sanger's 14-2 victory over Madera South, moving the Apaches closer to the No. 1 seed in the Division III playoffs at 9-0 in the County/Metro Athletic Conference and 28-3 overall.
