Man abducts former girlfriend, her infant son in Fresno

The Fresno BeeOctober 30, 2013

Fresno police Tuesday night arrested a man who officers said took his estranged girlfriend and her infant child from their home by warning he had a firearm.

Lt. Joe Gomez said James Anderson, 25, went to the 800 block of North Thorne Avenue about 9 p.m., forced his way into a home, took the infant and put the boy in his truck. People in the home tried to stop him, but Anderson said he had a gun and ordered woman into the truck, Gomez said.

Anderson then drove to the 1500 block of Purvis Avenue in Clovis. When Fresno and Clovis officers surrounded the residence, Anderson tried to escape but was captured by Clovis officers, Gomez said.

The woman and her child were taken to Children's Hospital Central California for examination because the child had been handled roughly, Gomez said. The child's condition was not provided.

Anderson was booked into Fresno County Jail.
