A 25-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night for possibly kidnapping his girlfriend and 1-week-old infant from a Fresno home, police said.
The girlfriend's family told police James Anderson started fighting with the girlfriend about 9 p.m. at her family's home near Thorne and Dudley avenues in Fresno.
When tensions escalated, Anderson hit the woman and grabbed the infant by one arm "like a football," tossing the baby in a truck, police said.
Anderson, with the girlfriend and the infant in the vehicle, drove to a home at Purvis Avenue and Purvis Court in Clovis. Fresno and Clovis police surrounded the home and caught Anderson while he was trying to jump the fence.
The girlfriend, who had a black eye, told police Anderson did not kidnap her despite what her family told officers, police said. The baby did not seem injured but was taken to Children's Hospital Central California for examination.
Anderson could face multiple charges including possible kidnapping, child endangerment and parole violation.
