San Diego State, led by individual champ Sirene Blair, won the team title by two strokes and Fresno State was 14th in a 17-team field as the weather-shortened Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown wrapped up Tuesday afternoon.
The No. 48 Aztecs shot 289 to finish at 3-over 579, with UNLV, No. 23 Central Florida and Texas Tech all at 581. Monday's middle round was canceled because of high wind at Stallion Mountain Golf Club.
Fresno State had rounds of 300 and 299, with Madchen Ly sharing 20th as its top finisher at 75-72-147 — climbing 23 spots Tuesday.
Blair, a freshman, had eight birdies in her final round 67 to finish at 6-under 138. Central Florida's Ashley Holder also shot a 67 while finishing second at 140.
Sunbirds drop another on volleyball road trip
Fresno Pacific's volleyball team wrapped up a weeklong stay in Hawaii with its third loss in four matches, this one a four-set defeat at Hawaii-Hilo.
The matches, which started at 9 p.m. Pacific time or later, dropped the Sunbirds to 11-9 overall and 6-7 in the Pacific West Conference.
Road fatigue may have caught up with Fresno Pacific, which won the first set 25-15 Monday but lost the next three 21-25, 16-25 and 20-25.
The Vulcans (8-11, 3-11) were swept by the Sunbirds when Hawaii-Hilo visited Fresno on Oct. 2.
Rupia Inck had 22 kills and 14 digs for Fresno Pacific and Hannah Butler a match-high 30 digs, but the Sunbirds hit just .157 as a team compared to the Vulcans' .227.
The Sunbirds return home to host Azusa Pacific at 7 p.m. Friday and NCAA Division II No. 25 Point Loma at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Fresno Pacific fell out of this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association rankings, but is still atop the list of other teams receiving votes.
