A second attempt to decertify the United Farm Workers union at the Gerawan Farming company has been given new life.
The petition filed by longtime Gerawan employee Silvia Lopez last week was dismissed on Monday by the Agriculture Labor Relations Board regional director Silas Shawver. But ALRB officials on Tuesday said an investigation into the petition and charges of signature fraud and illegal assistance by Gerawan supervisors will continue.
"All of these are important considerations and will allow us to make a decision within the next few days about whether there will be an election," said Ed Blanco, the ALRB's assistant general counsel. "We will let the parties know as soon as we have a decision about our investigation regarding the charges and the petition for decertification."
Lopez's first petition attempt was rejected last month after the board determined it lacked enough valid signatures and that many were forged.
