The Fresno Housing Authority held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning to mark the start of construction for a long-awaited downtown housing project.
A 45-unit apartment building will be built on the site of the former Droge Building at Inyo Street and Van Ness Avenue. The historic but dilapidated building that stood on that corner for 91 years was demolished in May.
The new four-story building will have a mix of studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments aimed at young professionals. The housing authority expects the project to be finished by next summer.
